How to set up shipping methods

Without a shipping method, the customer can't complete their order. Choose the countries you ship to, add your options (Standard, Express, carrier) and set their rates. About 5 minutes.

Before you start

  • Your store is created and you are logged in to your admin area.
  • Know which countries you ship to and at what price (or how fast).

Without a shipping method, the customer can't complete a physical order. It's the counterpart to payment: both are required to sell.

What you'll learn

  • Understand the shipping journey: Countries → Options → Activation.
  • Choose the countries you ship to.
  • Add shipping options and set their rates.

Step by step

Step 1 — Choose the countries you ship to

In the left-hand menu, open Shipping. The wizard has 4 steps: General settings, Countries, Delivery, Activation. On the Countries step, click “+ Add a country” (marker ①) and pick your destinations.

Each added country appears as a card. Click “Configure” (marker ②) to set its options and rates.

Why? You don't ship everywhere the same way: rates and delays are defined per country.

①② Add your destination countries, then configure each one.
lightbulbTip. Start with your main country (where most of your customers are). You can add other destinations later.

Step 2 — Add your delivery options

On the Delivery step of the chosen country, click “+ Add a delivery option” (marker ③). Pick a carrier or a custom option (e.g. Standard, Express, or a manual carrier).

Then click “Configure” (marker ④) to set its services and rates.

Why? These are the options the customer sees at checkout, with their price and delay.

③④ Add your options (Standard, Express, carrier), then configure their rates.
lightbulbTip. Rates can be calculated by price bracket, by weight, or as a flat rate. Flat rate is the simplest to start.
warningHeads up. An option marked “Incomplete pricing” isn't offered to the customer yet: open “Configure” and enter at least one rate.

Step 3 — Review and activate

Go to the Activation step to confirm your setup. Your changes are saved automatically at each step.

Why? Activation makes your delivery options visible and selectable at checkout.

Expected result

Each country shows its services (e.g. “Morocco — 3 services”, Active). At checkout, your customer picks their shipping method from the options you defined, with the matching price and delay.

Expert tips

  • Offer a choice, not ten. One economical option + one fast option is often enough.
  • Show realistic delays. A delay you keep beats an optimistic one you miss.
  • Consider conditional free shipping. “Free over $X” raises the average cart.
  • Check your costs. A rate too low eats your margin; too high scares the buyer away.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ship to several countries?

Yes. Add each country on the Countries step, then configure its options and rates independently. Each destination has its own rules.

How do I offer free shipping?

Create an option with a flat rate of 0, or use a “free above an amount” rule. Set this in the option's rates.

Which calculation method should I choose?

Flat rate: the simplest. By weight: ideal for heavy/bulky products. By price bracket: the rate depends on the cart amount.

What does “Incomplete pricing” mean?

The option exists but has no valid rate yet. Open its configuration and enter at least one rate so it gets offered.

Can I disable an option temporarily?

Yes. Each option has an enable/disable button. Disabled, it disappears from checkout without being deleted.

Does the customer see the delivery delay?

Yes, if you enter it (e.g. “1–5 days”). The delay shows next to the rate when the customer picks shipping.
