How to manage the hero slider (banner)

The slider is your store's hero banner. From Appearance > Slider, set the type, height and layout, then compose your slides (image, title, subtitle, button linked to a product or category). About 4 minutes.

Before you start

  • Your store is online, with an active theme and a few products or categories.

The slider (or hero banner) is the first thing your visitors see: a large visual at the top of the home page, with a catchy title and an action button. It's your showcase to highlight a promotion, a new arrival or a collection.

What you'll learn

  • Set the slider settings (type, height, layout, autoplay).
  • Add and compose a slide (image, title, button).
  • Link a slide to a product or a category.

Step by step

Step 1 — Set up your slider

In the left-hand menu, open Appearance then Slider, and edit your slider. In General settings (marker ①), name it, activate it, choose the type (carousel or static) and the height (full screen or medium). The Layout block (marker ②) picks the arrangement: Hero Classic (full-background image, centered text), Split (text left, image right) or Nivo. The Add button (marker ③) creates a new slide (up to 5).

Why? The layout and height set the visual impact of your home page. A carousel cycles through several messages; a static slider highlights a single strong offer.
Edit slider: general settings (marker 1), Hero/Split/Nivo layout (marker 2), Add a slide (marker 3)
① The general settings; ② the layout (Hero Classic / Split / Nivo); ③ Add a slide.
lightbulbTip. Further down, the Carousel block sets autoplay, the delay between slides and the overlay opacity (darkens the image to keep text readable).

Step 2 — Compose a slide

Click a slide's pencil to open it. First choose the source (marker ①): Custom (your own image), Product, Category or Bestsellers. In custom mode, upload your image (marker ②). Then enter the Title and Subtitle (marker ③) shown on the visual, and the Button label and link (marker ④) — e.g. "Discover" to your catalog. Click Save.

Why? A Product or Category source automatically reuses its image and link; Custom mode gives you full freedom over the visual and the message.
Edit a slide: source (marker 1), image (marker 2), title and subtitle (marker 3), button label and link (marker 4)
① The slide source; ② the image; ③ the title and subtitle; ④ the button label and link (CTA).
lightbulbTip. Use a wide, sharp image (landscape), with a fairly plain area so the text stays readable. Reorder slides by dragging the handle.

Expected result

Your banner appears at the top of the home page. In carousel mode, slides cycle automatically; each button sends the visitor to the targeted page (product, category or link).

Expert tips

  • One message per slide. A short title and a single button convert better than a cluttered visual.
  • Nail the first slide. It's the most seen; put your strongest offer there.
  • Test on mobile. Check the text stays readable on a small screen (overlay, title size).
  • Link to an action. A slide with no button is a missed chance: send to a category or a promo.

Frequently asked questions

How many slides can I add?

Up to 5 slides per slider. The counter (e.g. 1/5) shows how many remain; reorder them by drag and drop.

What's the difference between carousel and static?

The carousel cycles through several slides automatically; static mode shows a single fixed visual. Choose based on how many messages you want to convey.

What is the overlay for?

The overlay is a dark veil over the image: the more opaque it is, the more your white title stands out. Set it between 0 (transparent) and 1 (full).

Can I link a slide to a specific product?

Yes. Choose the Product source and search for it: the image and link are reused automatically. Same with Category or Bestsellers.

My slider doesn't show, why?

Check it's activated, that it has at least one active slide, and that your theme displays the banner zone on the home page.
